At the beginning of the 20th century postcards were the mass communication media of the day – with up to 7 collections a day in London, you could send a postcard inviting a friend to dinner, for him to receive it in good time to make it in the evening! Picture postcards covered any subject imaginable, including photos of London streets – almost as soon as they were built. They provide an amazing record of what your area looked like over 100 years ago. Join Irina Porter, London Blue Badge Guide and Chair of the Willesden Local History Society for the Kilburn Library coffee morning on 3rd November to explore Willesden through the lens of early photographers.
